I blow a chilly draft through my sister’s fingers, prompting her to drop her crochet hook and stoke the fire. A storm like this could knock the power out for days. I float into the kitchen and turn down the dial on the stove where a pot of chili is moments from burning the bottom of Mom’s Dutch oven. Satisfied everything is right in the old farmhouse, I retreat until she needs me again.
